PASIGARBO SA SUGBO ALL SET FOR AUG. 27
ALL local government units of Cebu, except for Danao City, are joining this year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia made sure that all preparations were completed during the final coordination meeting with various stakeholders on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, according to Capitol’s Sugbo News. The street dancing and grand ritual showdown of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, in Carcar City in southern Cebu.
Garcia was assured by stakeholders — including the host Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas; telecommunication representatives; the Cebu Police Provincial Office; the Highway Patrol Group; the Philippine Coast Guard; the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board; Land Transportation Office; and other local government unit (LGU) officials — that preparations including logistics, infrastructure readiness, accommodation for the contingents, power and internet connection stability, security, and traffic, among others, are ready for the event.
Barcenas told Sunstar Cebu on Aug. 2, that the contingents will be accommodated in the city’s schools while the city’s water and power utilities already guaranteed ample provisions of water and electricity.
Family members of the contingents will also be given priority when reserving accommodations along the venue where they can watch and enjoy the festivities.
This year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo features a street dancing competition, a grand ritual showdown, and search for a festival queen — all expected to draw thousands of spectators.
Carcar City is the first LGU to host the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo following the Provincial Government’s decision to hold it outside Cebu City for the first time since its inception in 2008.
This was due to the ongoing renovation of the Cebu City Sports Center, the festival’s usual venue, in preparation for the upcoming hosting of Cebu City for the Palarong Pambansa 2024.
The street dancing competition will be held on Diversion Road in Barangay Poblacion, while the grand ritual showdown will take place at the New Carcar City Sports Complex.
Carcar City Kabkaban Festival is set to defend its title after winning back-to-back titles in Pasigarbo sa Sugbo in 2022 and 2019.
Carcar bagged numerous awards last year. It won first place in the Street Dance Competition, Best in Ritual Showdown, Best in Jingle and third place in Best Andas category.
