"THE HIDDEN STRUGGLES OF ACADEMIC PRESSURE"

GENER P. MAGCALAS

In today's competitive educational environment, academic pressure weighs heavily on students, leading to stress and anxiety. This pressure is driven by high expectations from parents, teachers, and society. It creates a culture of competition among students, resulting in constant comparisons and a demanding workload. The fear of failure is a significant source of stress, often paralyzing students and affecting their mental health. Anxiety and depression are common consequences of academic pressure, impacting sleep and overall well-being. Recognizing these hidden struggles is essential for fostering a healthier balance between academic success and students' well-being. Furthermore, the proliferation of standardized testing and the emphasis on grades as the primary measure of success exacerbate the academic pressure students face. These assessments often do not fully capture a student's abilities, talents, or potential, yet they play a central role in determining educational opportunities and future prospects. As a result, students may feel compelled to prioritize test scores and grades over genuine learning and personal growth, further contributing to their stress and anxiety. To address these challenges, it's crucial for parents, teachers, and policymakers to recognize the importance of holistic education. This means valuing not just academic achievement but also the development of essential life skills, emotional intelligence, and mental well-being. Creating a supportive environment that encourages open communication about stress and mental health is essential to help students cope with academic pressure and lead healthier, more balanced lives.
