Jay Rence Quilario, known in Surigao by his alias, is Senior Aguila, president of the Socorro Bayanihan Services Group (SBSG), based in Socorro, Surigao del Norte, which is facing allegations of forced marriage of minors, sexual abuse and taking members’ pension.

Pro-child advocates want Quilario imprisoned and his alleged cult disbanded for the safety of those who testified and exposed the “abuses” of Senior Aguila and other leaders of Socorro at the Senate hearing Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023. Three minors said Quilario converted SBSG, with at least 3,500 members, into a doomsday cult, forced them to marry members who are older than them.

The hearing raised accusations of forced marriages, rapes and compulsory recruitments in their barangay.

The SBSG leaders denied the accusations.
