“Here in JobStreet, we truly understand how challenging the pandemic is to our workforce. Many have been retrenched or are underemployed. As a career partner, we’re committed to helping them find jobs that matter, and we hope that the Virtual Career Fair would be an avenue for our candidates to rebuild their careers and find hope amidst adversities,” shared Gioca.

Recently, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the unemployment rate went down to 6.9% in July, equivalent to 3.07 million people, which is the lowest rate since the pandemic. However, the study shows that most jobseekers have given up in finding jobs.

With this, JobStreet and CSC are making this year’s Virtual Career Fair bigger and productive. Their first Government Virtual Career Fair in 2020 offered over 10,000 job vacancies and garnered a total of five million site visits.

Provincial job posts on the rise

Despite the disruption to the workforce brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, JobStreet, reveals that there has been an increase in job postings from hirers in major provinces in the second quarter of this year versus the same quarter in the last year.

According to JobStreet’s database, as of Q2 2021, job postings in Davao Region rose by 167%, while Central Visayas grew by 94% and the Western Visayas at 72%, which collectively occupies more than 23,000 available jobs in the platform.

The increase in the number of job vacancies in the provinces highlights that there are many opportunities for Filipinos, especially those who returned home from Metro Manila due to the pandemic or are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that were retrenched by their foreign employers.

Based on the same report, JobStreet shares that some of the top hiring industries in Davao, Central Visayas, and Western Visayas are Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO, Government/Defense, Education, Computer/Information Technology (Software), Manufacturing/ Production, among others.

“With the spike of job posts that we observed in the platform in the last quarter, we can say that employers even in provinces have adapted and are starting to recover from the pandemic. We hope this continues to normalize so we can provide opportunities for our candidates,” said JobStreet Country Manager Philip Gioca.
