MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) reported zero deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Friday, July 23, 2021, due to technical issues in the CovidKaya surveillance system.

The Philippines is still considered low-risk, but DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said more areas were seeing a trend reversal to positive two-week growth rates.

“It is possible that we will come to a point of seeing another surge in cases, although we aren’t seeing that yet,” she said in a press conference earlier Friday.

In its case bulletin, the DOH listed 6,845 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), zero deaths and 2,330 new recoveries.

The new cases brought the total Covid-19 cases to 1,537,097, including 26,891 deaths, 1,455,137 recoveries and 55,069 active cases.

The case fatality rate declined to 1.75 percent because of the low number of deaths due to the technical issues in the system.

The active cases constituted 3.6 percent of the total cases in the country, of which 93.4 percent were mild, 2.3 percent were severe, 1.6 percent were moderate, 1.4 percent were critical and 1.3 percent were asymptomatic.

Vergeire said an increase was noted in Metro Manila as cases last week were higher by 179 compared to cases in the previous week. Eleven local government units have positive two-week growth rates.

Vergeire also noted that Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal showed increases in cases, with Cavite and Bulacan posting the fastest increases.

For the rest of Luzon, she said upward trends were observed in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
