THE Department of Health (DOH) logged on Sunday, October 24, over 5,000 more cases of Covid-19 that brought the nationwide tally to 2,756,923.

The health department’s 4 p.m. Sunday bulletin showed 5,279 additional infections, 7,312 new recoveries and 208 more deaths.

The country’s active cases now stood at 60,957 or 2.2 percent of the total caseload.

The recoveries jumped to 2,654,173 with the new recoveries reported Sunday. This means that 96.3 percent of the Covid-19 patients in the Philippines were able to recover.

The death toll, however, rose to 41,793 or 1.52 percent of the total cases.

The DOH noted that majority of the patients, or 77.5 percent, have mild symptoms, while 6.1 percent were asymptomatic.

Moderate cases stood at 9.20 percent, while 5.1 percent were severe and 2.1 percent were critical cases.

The health department said two laboratories failed to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on Friday, October 22. These laboratories contribute, on average, 0.3 percent of samples tested and 0.8 percent of individials who tested positive for coronavirus.

The DOH said 23 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of the 23, 16 were recoveries.

There were also 154 cases that were tagged as deaths after validation, the DOH added.
